When you become a Eco Hosting customer, your domains, websites and email become an integral part of our family and are located in our state-of-the-art UK data centres. These locations are manned 24x7 every day of the year for maximum support and security. This ensures we have full control over all hardware and data and can act swiftly and efficiently when needed.
Our 12 purpose-built data centres are optimised in every respect for maximum security and efficiency as well as being the best they can be for the environment, Using state-of-the-art technology, we’ve built a web hosting platform second to none. Our platforms have been developed in-house from the ground up by our team of Awesome web geeks to ensure that they are optimised for our services and to meet all our and your current and future needs. Bespoke code and clever systems mean we can offer exceptional hosting tailored to your needs without relying on third party software. Not only does this mean we have full control, but we can roll out updates and new features much faster than other web hosts. We've also opted for renewable energy as a power source purchased from one of the big energy suppliers which makes our energy usage Climate Change Levy Exempt (now defunct).
Optimised Technology
We worked very closely with our highly skilled engineers to ensure that our data centres were built for best performance. The 10Gb/s network is based on Cisco architecture and has direct access to LINX as well as several other major internet exchanges with no single point of failure throughout. We also piggy back on other networks, with multiple access points across the UK to ensure we have vast reserves of bandwidth even when operating at full capacity.
Ultimately, we have multiple multi-gigabit connections to the internet with different backbone providers using Tier 1 connectivity for super-fast internet speeds at all times.
Solid Security
We take security very seriously both physical and virtual. Our data centres have security teams on site 24x7 and are closely monitored using CCTV. Data centre access is restricted to a very small number of staff who are required to have the relevant security clearance. Only one person is able to enter at a time as any team member needs to pass through the outer security door using their secure fob which shuts behind them before they can access via the second security door. The space between the two doors is only big enough for one person so no-one can sneak in behind them.
All data is safeguarded behind a multi-layered firewall, backed up regularly and stored offsite.
Disaster Prevention
We have effective systems installed and we've developed appropriately thorough procedures so we will be prepared for any situation.
All our hardware is completely protected from fire, floods and any other potential disasters. Our fire prevention system is connected to the emergency services and utilises a VESDA smoke detection system. In the very unlikely event of fire, the whole centre is sealed and the Fire Suppression System fills it with gas to quickly extinguish the fire without damage to any equipment.
Uninterruptible Power
Each rack has two independent power feeds, fed from two diverse connections to the national grid. If one or both of these feeds fail, 4 battery backup systems cater for immediate power requirements.
If power remains off, that is if it isn't a quick off/on glitch and mains power is not restored within ten seconds, 3 diesel powered generators start providing full continuous power to the entire data centre.
Redundancy, Load Balancing & Data Backup
We’ve carefully created our cloud hosting platform so that the highly resilient back-end storage works perfectly with the load balanced front-end. Using load balancing, your website will automatically be served up by the quickest responding server within the cluster so you and any visitors to your site are never left waiting. No webserver is a single point of failure, and our storage array is fully redundant, this means that the redundant units are ready to take over at any time.
We also use advanced data replication between storage arrays, this means that when you make changes, or even if we are taking backups, data is written to multiple servers all at the same time. All website data, databases and email are backed up on a daily basis and we securely store multiple copies as standard in case you need them restored.
Built On Cisco, Juniper & Dell
Our network has been created using industry-leading network equipment from Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks for optimum performance and reliability across the board. We automatically scan for attempted DDoS attacks on our networks, and we are able to quickly mitigate the impact of any attack. If you could see how many attacks are fought off each day you would think we were making it up.
We only use high-spec Dell servers in our data centres, so you can rest assured that your website is running on high quality hardware from one of the world’s leading server manufacturers.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux
For many years, Red Hat Linux has been the leading choice for web hosting companies due to its amazing scalability and its track record as the most stable operating system available. Our systems utilise the latest Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 server technology to ensure we’re always up to date with system and security patches.
Windows Server 2008
